Jorginho and Flamengo debut with a victory in the Club World Cup, Mengão beat Espérance at Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia (USA) by 2-0. With goals from Arrascaeta and Luiz Araujo, Rubro-Negro has three points and leads group D of the competition.

In his debut for Mengão, the Italian-Brazilian Jorginho played for 74 minutes and excited the red-black fans for the rest of the competition. The midfielder provided the pass for Flamengo's second goal, scored by Luiz Araújo, and was one of the team's great players, along with Arrascaeta. Check out the numbers:

  • 74 minutes
  • 104 actions with the ball
  • 92/99 passes completed (93%)
  • 1 assistance
  • 1 pass to finish
  • 3/4 successful long passes
  • 3/3 duels won on the ground
  • 3 fouls suffered

"The debut was very positive, I enjoyed it a lot. It was a game that we interpreted in the best possible way, respecting the opponent and putting into practice what we had prepared. The group helped me a lot, welcomed me very well. The characteristics of the players we have fit with mine, so it was a good game, and I believe that our victory was deserved", said midfielder Jorginho.

"Of course, there's a lot to work on and to get more and more into. But I'm very happy with the first game and I felt very comfortable. Everything that happens certainly doesn't depend solely on me, but on the willingness of my teammates to welcome me. This thing of being there asking and speaking is a characteristic of mine. I only want the best for the team and I do it with an open heart just to help. Their reception was very good and I believe that only good things will come from here on out," added the Italian-Brazilian.

Flamengo's next challenges

With Jorginho available again and the likely returns of Alex Sandro and De La Cruz, Flamengo returns to the field next Friday (20) to face Chelsea, from England, in the second round of Group D of the World Cup. The ball rolls at 3 pm (Brasília time), in the same stadium as today's match.
